After ten weeks on the road, and coming to the end of our Indian Summer, we are in reflective mood. Have we changed? Do we miss home? What comes next?
We don’t feel we’ve changed. We brought everything about ourselves with us (good and bad). We did not go into this adventure looking for answers – we just wanted to have a look – but we have been awestruck by some of things we have seen.
We miss home. All our family and friends we have brought with us through the medium of wifi (this has changed the nature of modern travel), but it’s not the same as being able to give them a hug. We also miss the landscape and textures of Yorkshire, and it’s cool damp air.
As for what’s next, we keep going. We’re not ready to come back yet. Coping with India during monsoon was not easy, but we managed it; and the warmth and kindness that we have been shown along the way gives us faith that help will be at hand should we need it.
After many years (but who’s counting) of child rearing and work, we have decided to take a year out and do some world exploring. The plan is to travel through India, Indonesia, Indochina, Sydney, New Zealand, Fiji, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, California and New York (though things may change along the way). We are not seasoned travellers, so are heading off without expectations. We are fascinated by flora, fauna, people and ancient civilizations. We are hoping to see and learn new things, share our experiences with others… and hopefully have some fun along the way.
